Take a bow – Vicki, Kaity, Diane and Crystal. We knew you were going to wow the judges in Hobart when you gave us a preview performance before setting off for this year’s national competition. We held our breath then as you cast a musical spell over us at a recent rehearsal, and we held our breath again when we watched the live stream of your stunning performance on stage in Hobart.
Gold to Alouette in the quartet division of the Sweet Adelines 2025 Region 34 Convention! The competition is always fierce, but the judges definitely made the right decision. This means that Alouette will be heading off to Ohio, USA, in October to compete at the 2025 Sweet Adelines International Convention. Of course, all four members will be there anyway, taking up their positions with the rest of the CKC troupe in the chorus division. No time to hold our breaths then – we’ll be in full surround-sound diaphragmatic mode, weaving our own magic for the international audience.
Alouette wasn’t the only quartet to fly the CKC flag in Hobart this year. Our two other homegrown quartets also made us immensely proud. Kephi (Rachel, Anne, Betty and Jane) sang beautifully, achieving 11th place nationally. Tango (Jenny, Linda, Michelle, and Inese) were gorgeous, coming 15th. Inese once described quartet singing as an ‘extreme sport’, like tightrope walking. It’s true, it’s a high-risk activity and absolutely not for the faint-hearted. But the rewards are exhilarating for everyone involved, performers and mesmerised audiences alike.
Well done to our three quartets. Your on-stage performances are always an inspiration to the rest of us, as we strive to bring out our own best selves as chorus members and fellow travellers. You’ve done us all proud.
