OUR REQUIREMENTS
Our 7 risers, when set up, are 12.4 metres wide and 2.8 metres deep (but we need a stage depth of 5 metres to accommodate Vicki as well). If we use only 5 risers, the area is 9.2 metres wide by 2.3 metres deep
CHERRYBROOK HIGH
Available dates are Saturday 3rd December or Saturday 10th December 2011. No Sundays are available as they have a permanent booking for a church group.
Costs: Hourly rate - $36.30 (incl. gst), plus Security costs - $35 to open / $35 to close (before 11pm); plus Cleaning cost - $297.00
Cherrybrook's stage is 14.2 metres wide at the narrowest point by 7 metres deep, so it's big enough for 7 sets of risers. There are about 7 steps up from the rear and front stairs (but see Judith's email about Sico's advice that the risers can be dismantled for transport and lifting). There is a red stage curtain that can be drawn across the front. The stage is even wider at the front and has a grand piano on one side which shouldn't interfere with our risers.
The auditorium is wider than it is deep, with some tiered plastic seating at the back. It's wood floor and brick walls. Fiona thinks it can seat about 600, but wasn't sure.
They have a sound and lighting booth; we can hire their equipment (would need to check what they have) and must then hire their students to operate it.
For change rooms they will open up nearby classrooms, which have blinds.
Parking is limited - there are about 100 spaces on site, plus street parking. There is wheelchair access.
We can advertise in the 'bumper' edition of the school newsletter.
There is a largish kitchen adjacent to the hall with fridge and urn so we can provide refreshments at interval.
The auditorium is not air-conditioned, although it has heating.
Fiona referred us to their Music Coordinator, Chris Mortimer, regarding whether any of their students would be available as guest performers. We can follow this up if we decide to go ahead.
DURAL COUNTRY CLUB
Dural Country Club is available on the 20th, 27th November and the 4th of December. The cost of the auditorium is between $220 -$330 and it holds 250 to 350 people.
Tech specs – sound/lighting available? Just a mic
Additional costs (eg: sound and lighting technician)? Up to us
The stage is 85cm high with 4 steps at the side, it is 7.6m wide and 3.7m deep. (This will not accommodate 5 sets of risers.) Access to the stage is through the front door of the club and a van can be driven right up to the front door.
There is a change room at the back, not huge but would fit about 30 girls at a pinch, therefore the warm up would have to be before people started arriving
SIR IAN TURBOTT AUDITORIUM, UNI OF WESTERN SYDNEY, PARRAMATTA
Seats 1000 (600 tiered and 400 flat), stage size is 6 metres deep by 13 metres wide. A lecture theatre rather than a performance space. Usually booked out October - November for exams and December for graduations.
DOVER HALL
As we’ve used Dover Hall before, I am not all that keen on it as a venue. If we can explore other options first and then leave that one as a last resort? I think the stage is so small and the lighting is really bad. (Vicki)
CASTLE HILL HIGH
We used this for our show in 1998. We had to help with setting up chairs and cleaning.
Unfortunately Castle Hill High is booked out on weekends until January next year. (Kate)What about booking Castle Hill High for next year’s Show or Xmas event? Maybe we can discuss at next meeting? (Judith).
CASTLE GRANDE
We did a Christmas gig for the Hills Chamber of Commerce or something similar in the Pioneer room several years ago. The size of the room was okay but does not have a stage. I understand that the council has portable staging pieces that they use in this room (would probably be an additional cost). There is no lighting as far as I remember. (Vicki)
OAKHILL COLLEGE /DE LA SALLE
We sent a request to the Bursar of Oakhill College and they have said no. De La Salle is the same place as Oakhill.
DON MOORE HALL, NORTH ROCKS
We used this for a CKC show in 1997. We had to put chairs out and put them away and do the cleaning. Parking could have been better. Lighting was not good. No sound system.
CASTLE HILL RSL
We used this for a CKC show in 2001. Had to transport the risers ourselves and carry them up 3 flights of stairs onto stage and put them up. No extra advertising from them so we only attracted friends and family.
